The Future of Work will Have Money Trees and Unicorns if These Kids Get Their Way

Workspace industry professionals spend a lot of time talking about, designing and building the future of work.

But what do kids—the people who actually are the future of work—think?

The Area team decided to find out. The company invited 50-plus children to share their thoughts on workspace design, tech, workplace annoyances, the work week, retirement age and more.

The project, which is aptly named The Future of Work, is absolutely brilliant. As the Area website explains, what the team heard from the children was “a fascinating and uncompromising exploration into the future workplace, with infinite possibility.”

Particularly entertaining bits of the children’s feedback include requests for offices in space, secret entrances, money trees “so you don’t have to go to an ATM,” a pool, jet packs, pet unicorns, more flowers, and a chicken and chip shop “because no one wants to come to work and just eat vegetables.”
